cheryl I mentioned this sewing project in my last post, and now its finally done! I was a little lazy about taking photos, but check out the finished results. =)
Its hard to tell, but the skirt is sort of peplum-ish, but much longer and flowier. The pencil-like underskirt just peeks out two inches at the bottom. It was so windy out, I had a hard time taking more photos from different angles. This was really the only one that turned out decently. But I do have some fun photobooth pics that we took at the wedding I wore it to!
I didn’t take step by step photos like I usually do when I make something, but here are some highlights from my sewing process.
Pre-draping. Plotting out the general design on my dress form.
All of the bodice pieces have been cut and fused with interfacing. those two eyebrow looking pieces ended up being totally re-designed into longer strips that extend to the back of the dress.
Sewing the cup pieces, adding trim.
Cups sewn into the rest of the bodice.
Gross grain ribbon sewn inside the cup to create a channel for the underwire.
I was not particularly neat with my underwire stitching since I knew i’d cover it up with black trim anyway. Very forgiving design!
Adding black trim.
This is my last process picture. the bodice is complete and I added on the skirt next. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, and it was definitely a new challenge for me since I’ve never sewn anything with an underwire before.
Good job! I guess in the end it was worth the mess at home ! I can only look forward to more messes i mean dresses to come. =)
oh my! this is too gorgeous! i want to make a bustier maxi gown and seeing this gives me a new level of inspiration. it is too gorgeous and look mighty fine
